Reese vs Tball

She enjoyed the first week, when the coach didn't show up and she just got a shirt and we tossed a ball to her a few times so she'd feel like she'd had the practice that she'd been waiting weeks to have.
But the coach didn't show up to the next practice, either.
Or the next one.
Or their first game.
Or the 2nd game.
Or for team pictures (don't worry, he sent his super pregnant wife wearing sweatpants and bed-head to stand in for him. Luckily, the photographer opted to have a picture of just the players taken also. I really can't wait to see what my $16 got me.)

then his kid tried to mount my daughter.

Commencement

Pieces graduated from preschool last week. Congratulations, Reese! Rather than having a commencement ceremony, her class held a picnic, instead. Reese was lucky to be joined by two of her favorite dates. Grandpa and Daddy!

Reese says she will miss being a Butterfly because "we just get to play all the time", but that she is "so excited for kindergarten." We're excited for you, too!

The last week of school, Reese came home with a registration/info packet for a week long "Kindergarten Readiness Camp" that her teacher is hosting this summer. It advertises that for "only" $50 your child will learn the basic skills they need to know for kindergarten (letters, shapes, colors, etc). $50 and four days to learn everything they need to know for kindergarten.

Uhhhh....isn't that what I have been paying this preschool $100 a month for the last TWO years to do? Just sayin'.

I am seriously considering teaching again next year. I LOVE teaching preschool at home. I've been thinking about it since Wednesday, and... if there is enough interest, YES, Young Learners Preschool Enrichment will be open for business again in September! Spread the word, y'all

Advice Needed

I just caught one of these bad boys eating the lettuce in my garden!!!
I am NOT happy.
Other than purchasing a snake to let loose in the yard (an idea that I haven't ruled out, entirely), how do I get rid of him?!
Can I poison him? That is MY lettuce. I am supposed to be eating it, not him!
I want him to die.

First, Facebook ads.
Does this picture really make anyone want to go back to college?

'Cuz I think I'd rather not be seated next to that dude.
I think that dude is the reason I carry pepper spray when I walk to my car after class.
Yeah. I do that.
Maybe it's scare tactic. Like, "Hey loser, finish college or you'll end up working with carnies!"
I think it only motivates me to look into independent study.

Next, Facebook Friends.
Are you a choosy friend-er?
Do you friend everyone, secretly hoping to have more friends than CJane?
Do you friend, then secretly unfriend later, and hope they don't notice?
Do you segregate friends into lists of who can see status updates and who can't?
Do you say yes to all friend requests, but give them one and only one shot not to annoy you, then hit the hide/ignore/delete/unfriend/ignite button the second they blow it by posting a photo of their cat wearing suspenders or start making requests for their Lil' Green Patch?

Third, Facebook Status Updates.
Do you have rules? You know, like do you update according to a self-set calendar (daily, monthly, hourly, mood-ly, crazy guy cut you off in the parking lot-I should post about it-ly)
Should status updates serve a purpose? Express your mood? Tell about accomplishments? Share exciting news? Tell us when you pooped last?
Must the status update be funny?
Is venting via status update acceptable?

Laundry Day

Don't you just love it when you are totally caught up on the laundry except for the ONE thing you want to wear?

Don't you just love it when you can wander around the house and can find random things (an apron, a decorative towel, the baby blanket, a stray pair of socks, etc) to add to the wash to make a decent load so you don't feel wasteful for just washing one item?

And don't you just LOVE it when you are switching the laundry and you realize you never actually put the one item INTO the washer?!

Looks like all that time I spent doing the dishes wearing only a bra, while I waited for the laundry to cycle, would have been better spent finding something else to wear!

Am I the only person that's ever done this?

Therapy

I am beyond excited about our garden this year for a number of reasons.
#1) We have fruit!!!!
The peach tree that we planted in our front yard 3 years ago FINALLY has peaches. I think it's because Aaron threatened to tear it out if it didn't produce this year. Scare tactics work in the plant world.
We also have sour cherries on the tree we planted last year (that was nearly dead when I bought it, but hey, for $7 it was worth the risk). Unfortunately, I think the "self pollinating" pear tree wants a mate, so we'll put one in this year and see if we get pears next fall.

Our brambles patch is out. of. con. trizzle. Last year I scored a zillion berry bushes for $2 on clearance at Lowe's. They survived the winter, have doubled in size, and we will have a haul of fresh raspberries,

blackberries,
and even some blueberries very soon (thank you crazy acidic Arkansas soil).My side yard is full of wild blackberries. In the past, the animals have gotten to them first, but NOT THIS YEAR!

#2) We have a fence! Now I can share with the neighbors by choice, rather than by, "oh hey, look out the window, the neighbor is headed home with 12 of the tomatoes I was going to make salsa with, today."

#3) expansion! Now that we have the fence up, I have moved the garden beds (one shovel of dirt at a time) to an area of the yard with less potential to be used as anything else. It took several days to move, but it was worth it.

This year, the Willy Garden is also home to: -3 different varieties of Tomatoes (there are 14 plants in all. Yes. FOURTEEN. To say 'we got carried away' is an under statement)
-Zucchini-Straightneck and Crookneck Yellow Squash
-Bell Peppers
-Anaheim peppers
-Jalapenos
and from seeds:
-Green Beans
-Watermelons
-3 varieties of carrots
-Broccoli
-2 types of leaf lettuce
-spinach
-green onions
-cilantro
-ornamental gourds

I am only using 3 of my self-watering containers right now. I had plans to transplant a few tomato plants into them, but they got so big so fast, I think it might be too late. I need to try growing something else in them.

I can't wait to get some mint and basil starters from the Farmer's Market this weekend! This year, I think I'm going to grow regular Basil, Lime Basil, and Cinnamon Basil. Yummy! I'm not even sure what to DO with the mint, but I think it smells good, it's pretty, and it reminds me of my grandma, so I think I'll put some in a pot by my front door and see if it survives.

Does anyone have a recipe for sour cherry pie filling?
I think these bad boys will be ready to harvest any day now, and I really need pie.

Last Day

Today was the last day of school for the Busy Bee class.

Quincy did really well in her first year at preschool. It is not an easy thing to have Mommy double as a teacher, and I think she adjusted really well.
Her favorite parts of preschool: "singing the songs and having my friends come to my house for circle time, and baking cookies for snack."

I still have a zillion pictures and curriculum that I did with these little guys to post.
I am so very glad I decided to teach this year, even though I had a lot going on. The children in my class are amazing. Teaching and loving them was definitely one of the highlights of my year.

she plans on me seeing her naked again, and wants to protect my eyes (and brain) from future scarring. Yes, that must be it. How nice of her to think of me.

I am now taking suggestions for what to write on the thank-you card.

This Weekend, We...

Ate steak burgers at Station Cafe and went to Pickin' on the Square.

Sang Happy Birthday and ate Dark Chocolate Cake Pops. I'll post more pics of the super cute decorations I made, and the even more super cute birthday boy (that I also made) in another post.

Watched Reese remind us that we should never ever ever ever consider signing her up for t-ball ever again.

Ate buckwheat waffles and pecan pancakes at War Eagle Mill (sheena, you would die over the pictures you could take at this place. I actually feel bad that you have to look at my sorry attempt to capture how cool it is)

Climbed a lot of stairs and went antiquing in Eureka Springs

Ate paninis at "The Pizza Slut"

Notice the shopping bag....I found another hook for my bathroom in a cute store with a zillion old
doors and windows as a ceiling. It's like the store was calling me in!

Saw Thorncrown Chapel (briefly, they closed for a wedding)

Drove up to Christ of the Ozarks and a piece of the Berlin Wall.

Eureka Springs is a cool, but odd place

My parents stayed home with the kiddos and tried to push Diet Pepsi on my baby.

Ate Grilled Pork Tenderloin with Dippin' Sauce, Sweet Potatoes, Pasta Salad, Green Salad, Baguettes and Watermelon.

Went for a walk to the Tanyard Creek Waterfall.

Good weekend. The only part I regret are the two minutes I spent attempting to watch LOST for the first time ever. Wow. I will never get those two minutes of my life back.

Drive Thru Safari

My brother, Scott, and his wife, Kristie, are in town this week!
My parents are also visiting still. Yahoo!!!
For Corbin's birthday, we went to the Wild Wilderness Drive Thru Safari.
